Getting here and away

St. Olavsleden is easily accessible by all forms of transport
You can travel to the St. Olavsleden trail by train and some of the larger towns have airports. If you want to split up your hike and not walk the entire trail, there are good flight connections to and from Östersund. Local trains also go along the entire trail.

To Sundsvall /
Selånger

Airplane: Sundsvall Timrå Airport is located just off the E4, 21 km north of central Sundsvall.

Train:  SJ (Swedish Rail) run trains to Sundsvall from most of Sweden and the journey takes 3.5 hours from Stockholm with their express train.

Bus: There are several bus companies to chose from, including Ybuss and Flixbus.

Car: Take the E14 (east/west) or E4 (north/south).

Travelers arriving in Sundsvall by train can follow route signs for 10 kilometers from Sundsvall station to Selånger, the start of St. Olavsleden trail.

From
Trondheim

Airplane: Trondheim airport is located in Værnæs off the E6, 35 km north of central Trondheim.

Train: Vy takes you through most of Norway and their website is the easiest and often cheapest way to book train tickets at. You can also use the travel planner Entur.

Bus: You’ll find information at www.atb.no, www.nettbuss.no and www.en-tur.no

Car: Take the E14 (east/west) or the E6 (north/south)

To and from
Östersund

Airplane: Åre-Östersund airport is located just outside of Östersund, approximately a 15-minute journey from the city. It takes about an hour from the airport to Åre.

Train: SJ (Swedish Rail) have express trains to Stockholm (approximately 5 hours) and other destinations. There’s also a night train. There is also the Inlandsbanan train that goes between Mora and Gällivare with stop in Östersund.

Bus: There are several bus companies to chose from, including Flixbus.

Car: Take the E14 (east/west) or the E45 (north/south)

Trains and buses along the trail

Local trains and buses go between many of the towns along St. Olavsleden. This means you can hike a section in the middle of the trail, and then take the train or a bus for a section.
Trains managed by SJ (Swedish Rail) and VY (Norwegian Rail) stop at these larger towns/cities in Sweden: Sundsvall, Ånge, Bräcke, Östersund, Åre, Duved. In Norway there are stations near the trail in Stjørdal, Hell, Vikhammer and Trondheim. Trains from the north stop in Verdal.

With the local train company Norrtåg, you can also stop at smaller places. There are stations in Sundsvall, Stöde, Torpshammar, Fränsta, Ljungaverk, Erikslund, Ånge (with a transfer bus to Borgsjö), Bräcke, Stavre, Gällö, Pilgrimstad, Brunflo, Östersund, Krokom (with a transfer bus to Nälden), Mörsil, Järpen, Undersåker, Åre and Duved.

In Norway there are stations near the trail in Stjørdal, Hell, Vikhammer and Trondheim. You can also take bikes onto these trains. Find out more at www.norrtag.se
